Session One - March 4 - what the children worked on:

We reviewed Chapter 1 vocabulary words (Baptism, Trinity, Confirmation, Eucharist, Holy Communion, Mass)
We completed Chapter 2. Focus was on gathering at Mass to celebrate God’s presence, and that the Eucharist is a special way that God is present with us at Mass. Important words from this chapter are Altar, Bible, Lector.
We completed Chapter 3. Focus was on how we prepare ourselves to celebrate God’s presence at Mass. Recall the concept of sin, and God’s forgiveness and mercy.
We completed Chapter 4. Focus was on listening to God’s word at Mass. The definitions of the vocabulary words are on page 102 of their book.
The back of their textbook has an excellent resource on “The Order of Mass” on pages 82-93. The children will be able to identify and relate to what they read there, and what they see in Mass here at St. Andrew’s.

The students did Chapter 10 "We Listen to God's Word", which discusses the Liturgy of the Word and its parts. The students identified ways to share stories, learned about parables, Old Testament, New Testament, and the parts of the Liturgy of the Word. Important words for them from this chapter are: creed, Gospel, Homily, New Testament, Old Testament, psalm, and Sacred Scripture.
The students also completed Chapter 11 "We Offer Gifts". This chapter talked about the importance of preparation and presentation of the gifts. Jesus promised to give himself as spiritual food, and we understand that the bread and wine represent all that we offer to God. Important vocabulary words are: Blessing, Offering, Sacrifice.

Session Two - March 18 - what the children worked on:

We completed Chapter 5. Focus was on preparing for the Eucharist by bringing forward the gifts of bread and wine that will be offered to God. Important words from this chapter are blessing and sacrifice.
We completed Chapter 6. Focus was that during the Eucharistic Prayer, we remember that Jesus gives us the gift of himself. Important words from this chapter are Last Supper, Consecration, and Eucharistic Prayer. The children should be able to correlate what happened at the Last Supper and the words we hear during Mass. They should also be able to identify page 55 as one of the most important pages of their book.
We did the sticker activity on pages 98-99. The children might want to look at the interior of St. Andrew's the next time they're at Mass, and find similarities and differences in the altar spaces.

The Students completed Chapter 12 "We Remember Christ's Passover". Important themes from this chapter are the Eucharistic Prayer, Consecration, and Transubstantiation. They should be able to identify the Eucharist as the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Vocabulary words include: consecration, Eucharistic Prayer, Last Supper, real presence, and transubstantiation.
They also did Chapter 13 "Holy Communion Strengthens Us". This chapter discusses the actual receiving of Holy Communion, including that we gather to remember Jesus' Last Supper, and that we are united with one another when we pray the Lord's Prayer. Important words from this chapter are: chalice, Communion Rite, host, Lord's Prayer, and tabernacle.

Session Three - April 1 - what the children worked on:

We completed Chapter 7. Focus was on the actual receiving of Holy Communion, the steps we take, and the words we say. Important words from this chapter are chalice and host.
We completed Chapter 8. Focus was on what we do "after" we receive the Eucharist. The important word from this chapter is grace.
Review any concepts from Chapters 6 and 7 that the students may be struggling with.

The students completed their book work by doing Chapter 14 "Jesus Calls Us to Love", which is about growing in faith through the sacrament. We are prepared for discipleship and are sent from Mass to live as followers of Jesus. Vocabulary words are: Catholic social teaching, discipleship, and Kingdom of God.
Review any concepts from Chapters 12 and 13 that the students may be struggling with.
